Hey Everyone!
I have a great dane that is a very very picky eater! He wont even touch any kind of canned food. I was giving him the dry food and let him eat or starve, but he has lost a lot of wieght! He just doesn't like dog food (canned, dry, or raw meat and bones)! I am feeding him Diamond Lamb and Rice. (I have 6 other dogs, so I really cant buy the expensive foods)
What should I try? Is there something that I can add to the food to make it more tasty for him??? |

| I'd suggest home cooking, but I'm afraid he'd eat you out of house and home! If he's that picky try warming some low sodium chicken broth and put that over his food and see if he'll eat that. My daughter's great dane is like that too and this trick works for her. She also feeds him a box of macaroni and cheese once in a while just to bulk him up a bit. |

sounds like a great trick -but- won't you have to keep doing this for the rest of the dogs life?
personally I think that if a dog is hungry enough he will eat whatever dry dog food or canned food you put out for them. |

Well, yes it does go on for the life of the dog. My daughter's
Dane is a show dog so she has to keep him at a good weight so she's willing to indulge him a little. |

Well...I cant show Baloo because he's a Mantle Merle, but I am planning to breed him in the future. And I dont mind spoiling him. Im not the one to go over the top with a picky eater, but he was 100 lbs when I got him (he is suppose to be 150lbs) so at this point, I dont want to wait around to see if he will eat. I need him to eat and gain weight. He is about 120 lbs now. Once he is at a good weight and good condition than we can work on his food problem.
The mac and cheese didn't work, neither did the chicken broth. So far the only thing he will eat is Ol'Roy gravy mix food, extra gravy and canned food mixed in. I know that its not the best food out there, but its the only thing I can get him to eat! He wont eat Diamond (which is what I feed the rest of my doggies) So I guess it better than nothing! |

She lives in Michigan and, no she hasn't finished her website yet. We've been working on it. She also has a merle female that she wants to breed with her male.
BTW if the O'lRoy is working don't fix it. I know it's not quality dog food, but if he's eating so be it. Just keep an eye on his bones, joints and supplement him. |
