|
|
| I've heard so many different things about them and I want what's best for my Akita, Storm. He is a chewer and a friend of mine bought be a bundle of rawhide chews for Storm. The next day, my niece came over and took them away and told me that they are no good - they they don't fully digest! Is this true?! |

Definately no - rawhides are not safe! I dont even know why pet stores market them. Rawhide chews may be contaminated with salmonella, which can infect pets and humans who come in contact with the chews. These kinds of chews should only be offered to a pet with supervision, as they can pose a choking hazard as well as chewers (especially puppies) can gobble that cute little rawhide slipper so quickly and not realize that they are about to swallow a big chunk of it.
If you do want to get rawhides, I suggest the pressed rawhide as they give a longer & better chew. However, it can still be worked down into small, chokable sized pieces relatively fast by an aggressive chewer. Just be careful and supervise your doggies. |

| When I went to buy rawhides on day, a man stopped me from buying them. He told me that his dog had to have surgery to remove the rawhide from his stomach. He said letting your dog eat rawhide would be the same as letting your dog eat a leather shoe and then expecting him to digest it. That scared me!! I bought some natural dental chews for my lab instead. |

| its ok ashlee - you are not a bad pet owner - just one that was mis-informed. there are so many people that dont know the dangers of rawhide. everytime i see someone buying them at the store i always stop them and inform them of the dangers. |

| Yea, but Rex is probably a big dog right? And probably chews the rawhides up pretty well too if he is... Rawhides are bad if your dog doesnt chew them up really good and thats how they can get lodged and hard to digest. |

If you need a chew for your dog -- get all natural !!!!!!!!!!!!
Smokehouse has alot of safe rawhide products ---- The most best is the BULLY STICKS --- I know what part of the bullit is but the dogs love them !!!!!!!!!!!!! |

|

We bought bones from the butcher - completely natural... but our dog gets the poos when he eats them. He's a medium size dog, 52 lbs. But his tummy can't digest the particles. Yep, it's stinks trying to clean THAT out of the carpet.
I've heard that rawhides are tough on a lot of dog's tummys. But, there are some dogs who can stomach them just fine. |

NO RAWHIDE!!! dog will enjoy!
