I use to have a really kewl Iguana named Iggy... He eventually got too big for me to keep in my apartment. I donated him to Nova SouthEastern School in Florida - where he lives in an aviary. Every morning the children in the school feed him and the other animals that live there.
he was a really kewl pet... a bit messy but was super cool! |

| When was the last time you saw Iggy? Are you still allowed there to visit? |

I have had two iguanas share my home. Kiwi only lived to be two from poor nutrition from his previous owners; an iguana farm in Florida.
Sprocket the wet toad (yes, Toad the Wet Sprocket is one of my favorite bands-I'm a garage band fanatic) is my buddy. I've had him since 2000 and he has been a true joy. However, he has tail problems from an injury suffered at a very young age, before I got him, so he has lost about 1/3 of his tail.
He is a good iguana, but has his moments. When his tail hurts, he is grumpy, but that's ok. I have a t-shirt that I can't wear around him because it has a big picture of an iguana on it and it freaks him out. He doesn't like hats either.
He loves bananas and watches me constantly when I am in the kitchen. In the winter he is indoors but in the summer we keep him outside and he loves it. He has big beautiful green and yellow eyes (I have green eyes with yellow specks so we relate!).
Don't buy an iggy. Rescue one. There are tons of them out there looking for homes. The pet stores need to stop getting iguanas from those awful reptile farms and selling them to people who have no idea how big they are actually going to get!
If anyone knows of a place that would be a good home for an iguana, please let me know. There are too many iggys without homes. I am on the board and a librarian for the New England Herpetological Society.
Take care.
